Our President, Rachel Fenwick, marked the anniversary of her competing at the 1976 Montreal Olympics as a member of the GB archery team, by hosting a skills competition.

Rachel and Michael Wheatley devised a pointing game based on archery scoring. Sixteen players, in teams of two, threw boules at three set distances from the jack and points were awarded according to how close they were. A direct hit which moved the jack scored an extra ten points. The weather forecast had been promising heavy rain but in the event there were only a couple of showers. It was a very enjoyable day with a novel competition.

The winners were Jo Beer and Richard Brickles, with Liz and Bob Ellis runners up and Alison Newberry and Barry Ede in third place.

Following the competition Rachel hosted tea and cakes in the Bowls Clubhouse, Rachel having baked a selection of delicious cakes and scones herself.

Rachel presented medals and a trophy to the winners and she was presented with a bouquet and a Star Baker apron by Michael.

Many thanks to Rachel for coming up with the idea, assisted by Michael, to Joan and Sheila for their hard work in the kitchen and to Bob and Liz Ellis for keeping the terrain looking so good.
